Torvehallerne, Copenhagen

When it comes to food, quality is important. One of the best places I’ve found in Copenhagen is Torvehallerne. A place where organic, ecological food is plenty and artisans of all sort are willing to show you their goods and give you samples. Originally established in 1889, it was Copenhagen’s vegetable market until 1958, it was renovated from 2009 to 2011 and now has a green-house like feel with different booths.

There’s a variety of products at Torvehallerne, most of it revolves around food with a few places specializing in things such as spices and tea. Everything is high quality, organic and fresh. And the price reflects it. Don’t think you’re going to escape from here with anything less than 100 kr. I know I can’t! The place is perfect for a weekend stroll or a food buying frenzy.

A few places of special note are Tante-T, they have a few shops around town and they have superb tea. It’s all loose and the selection is unlike anything I’ve seen. I’ve bought everything from licorice to cool-mint and of course you can bring your own jar, say no to plastic! The ice cream place is also wonderful and offers italian gelato ice cream, some of them made from rice without any gluten.
